Smartpost shipping from Estonia: Services, price and conditions

Smartpost is a shipping company owned by Itella Estonia that offers shipments by air, sea and road, including parcel delivery services.

Since 2007, Smartpost has created a shipping and delivery network with 200 parcel lockers and plenty of options for domestic and international shipments (to Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries).  Its wide range of services is likely why it was voted as the preferred shipping company for Estonians in 2021.

Smartpost offers two kinds of shipping rates and services, depending on the client (business or individual).

Domestic and international shipping

SmartKULLER

With Smartpost SmartKULLER’s service, you can ship your items in two ways:

• to a parcel locker or post office
• to a work or home address

This shipping option works six days a week (Monday to Saturday). Parcels will be delivered on the next day, except for shipments processed on Sundays and parcels shipped to small islands.

These delivery options are available only for Estonian and Finnish customers. For shipments across Europe, courier delivery may be more convenient —or the only option, in some cases. 

SmartEXPRESS

This service is available from Tuesday to Friday. Parcels handed to couriers before 13:00 can be delivered on the same day.

SmartEXPRESS isn’t available on public holidays.

Cash-on-delivery service

This service is available for Smartpost customers through a bank-card payment. The online store will need to pay the shipping costs and any additional charges for the cash-on-delivery service and Smartpost will transfer the amount back once the recipient collects and pays the shipment.

Return service

Parcels shipped with Smartpost can be returned with the same door code that was used for receiving the parcel in a locker, in the case of domestic orders.

This makes the return process easier for both the customer and the online store.

If you want to provide even simpler returns, use Outvio to create a customized portal where you can collect data about returned products, customers’ opinions and brand image. This data can then be used to further optimize the purchasing experience by, for example, fixing your sizing guide, discovering faults or developing new launches.

Smartpost prices: Shipping rates

Smartpost takes into consideration the dimensional weight of parcels rather than their weight.

In fact, the weight will be irrelevant as long as the package doesn’t weigh more than 35 kg.

Smartpost differentiates between 5 package sizes, based on the height of a parcel.

Shipping with Smartpost

To ship with Smartpost as an individual, get your parcel and go to the nearest parcel locker. You can pay for the shipment at the parcel locker.

If you’re an online store, you can order a courier to pick up the parcels from a warehouse, office or store. This service is available in Tallinn and Harju County on working days before 12:00 and elsewhere in Estonia upon special agreement.

Receiving a parcel at a parcel locker

Smartpost provides over 200 parcel lockers in Estonia. You can also ship your parcels from Estonia to Finland and have them delivered to a post office, parcel locker or home or work address there.

Prohibited goods

With Smartpost, you can’t ship:

• perishable products
• radioactive, explosive, caustic, toxic or inflammable substances
• substances sensitive to cold
• liquids that aren’t properly packed
• money, bank cards, precious metals and stones and other valuables
• identity documents, travel documents, permits and other sensitive documents
• live plants and animals
• sharp items that aren’t properly packed
• drugs and psychotropic substances
• ammunition and weapons

Maximum weight for Smartpost

To ship your parcel with Smartpost, the parcel needs to be under 35 kg.

Dimensions for Smartpost shipments

The minimum dimensions of your parcel depend on your destination.

For domestic shipments, the minimum size is 1 x 15 x 15 cm (height x width x length) and for international shipping it is 3 x 15 x 25 cm.

The maximum dimensions for domestic and international shipments are 60 x 36 x 60 cm.

What’s Smartpost’s delivery time?

Smartpost will deliver parcels within 1-8 days, depending on the origin and destination of the shipment and the type of service paid for by the shipper.

Does Smartpost deliver on Sundays?

No, Smartpost delivers only Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00.
